Congratulations to High School Band members making the ATSSB All Region Band. Tilman Strickland, 4th chair alto saxophone; Layne Dunbar, 4th chair tuba; Madison McFarland, 8th chair alto saxophone and Cierra Jackson, 10th chair flute. The All Region band concert will be held on Saturday, January 25 at 5:00pm in the Silsbee High School auditorium.
Students advancing to the Area Band competition are: Cierra Jackson, flute; Tilman Strickland, alto saxophone; Carlin Bailey, trombone and Layne Dunbar, tuba. These students will audition for the ATSSB All State Band on Saturday, January 11 at Chapel Hill High School in Tyler.
Deweyville High School flute players performed Christmas music at Dorman Funeral Home for their annual Service of Peace and Hope. The event was held to remember family members that have passed away recently. Each attendee was given a Christmas ornament to place on the tree representing their family member. Flute players are: Aleicia Huerta, Abigail Stanley, Caressa Ward and Cierra Jackson.
Congratulations to our 4 Middle School band members that auditioned for the ATSSB Middle School All Region Band on Saturday, November 16. These students competed against over 500 7th and 8th grade students from 20 area schools. Earning 5th chair on clarinet 8th grader, Samantha Hatcher and earning 14th chair on flute 8th grader, Riley Wright. Receiving 1st alternate positions were: 8th graders, MiCayla Brown on alto saxophone and 8th grader, Conner Dehn on trumpet. These students will perform in a 5:00pm concert at Silsbee High School on Saturday, January 25.

Attending for the first time senior Blake Hickman was awarded a silver medal for his flute solo performance. Freshman Tilman Strickland won a gold medal for his alto saxophone solo and will be eligible for the Outstanding Performer award to be decided later this summer. For the second time in a row our saxophone trio received the highest rating for an ensemble which is the bronze medal. Trio members are junior Madison McFarland, sophomore Jonathan Jenkins and freshman Tilman Strickland. Congratulations to each student on their success!
Deweyville Pirate Band Advances to Area in the ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series Contest.
Each recording of the three Concert Contest Selections the band played at UIL Concert and Sight Reading contest in March was entered into the OPS contest. The region level was judged in early June by directors from another region in the state. Only 2 march recordings and 3 concert recordings advance from region to area. The Pirate Band was selected in both categories and all 3 selections will advance to the area round. The area round will be judged at the end of June with 2 march and 3 concert recordings advancing to the state level. The state level is judged at the end of July and awards are received in February at the Texas Music Educators Association Clinic.
